White Rose Brussels Events on Brexit, ERC, Food Security and Sustainability

May and June were busy months for the Brussels office, we held three events in Brussels and one in Yorkshire. Here’s a quick summary of the four events.

Regions, Cities and the EU after Brexit: Towards a ‘multi speed’ Europe? event
We had Scott Lavery and his colleagues from SPERI (Sheffield Political Economy Research Institute) hold a debate in the European Parliament, hosted by Linda McAvan, MEP for Yorkshire and the Humber. More details about the event can be found here:

White Rose Brussels ERC Showcase event
The next event was for a change was held in Leeds. As part of the 10 year anniversary of the ERC and to showcase some of the ERC grant holders at the White Rose Universities, we organised an event for potential ERC applicants from the three universities. Agnes Kulcsar, from the ERC Executive Agency also gave an overview of the re-launched Synergy Grant call. A summary of the event can be found here:

Re-thinking Sustainable Food Systems event
Then we held one of our White Rose Seminar Series events on Food Security, “Re-thinking Sustainable Food Systems”. Phil Hogan, Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, gave a key note speech and speakers from the three universities as well as panellists Nicolas Villacorta, DG Research and Innovation and Robert de Graeff, European Landowners’ Organisation. Pathways to Global Policy, Industry and Societal Impact on Resource Efficiency and Sustainability event
Finally we held an event with Prof. Lenny Koh and AREC (Advanced Resource Efficiency Centre), University of Sheffield, which was held in the European Parliament and hosted by John Procter, MEP for Yorkshire and the Humber. Prof Koh presented the work of AREC on the circular economy and sustainability and there was a panel debate with Brussels stakeholders, including the European Commission. Read the news article here:
